VOLUNTEER
There are several ways in which you can volunteer with our organization. You can help us carry out our mission by serving as either a mentor, speaker/presenter, consultant, or as an intern:
Mentor
Mentors meet with individual cohort members on a bi-weekly basis from the start of the program through to its completion, guiding the young men in our program as they develop their business plan. The commitment for module 1 of our program would be 10 weeks and up to 16 weeks for our module 2 programming. Mentors can opt to support either module one or two of our program.
Workshop Presenter
Host a workshop on topics like cash flow projections, pricing and profitability, marketing, or presentation skills for our program. We welcome professionals with significant industry experience whether corporate and/or entrepreneurial who can lead a workshop and actively engage participants in active discussion and learning. Commitment: 3-4 hours on an assigned day over the course of the program.
Consultant
Volunteer your professional skills to consult with our program participants on the specific challenges they are facing as they implement their ventures. Commitment: 2 - 3 hour sessions on an assigned day over the course of the program.
Interns
We are also very committed to helping students become more inspired about entrepreneurship and getting more involved with our mission of helping community businesses thrive. We offer internships for undergraduate and graduate students preferably studying business administration or entrepreneurship, marketing, information (social media) management, and finance. Our program is available to students who are interested in small business development and want to gain real-world consulting experience working with small businesses in all sectors.
Our internships provide an excellent opportunity to learn firsthand what business development and entrepreneurship is all about. You will work in a team atmosphere with experienced staff and have ample opportunities to network with peers and management, learn from experts, and gain exceptional, hands-on experience. Projects range from assisting with program facilitation, market research, performance metrics planning, financial modeling and proforma analysis, marketing plan development, data and systems analysis, to workflow and system design.
Ideal candidates are business students who possess:
- A current cumulative undergraduate and graduate GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to exhibit good judgment
- The ability to work well in a team setting and independently when required
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to listen and respond to impromptu questions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media
